Slot acknowledges it will be a difficult task to lift underperforming Liverpool

Arne Slot stated that he confronts a major test to uplift Liverpool following Manchester United prevailed at Anfield for the maiden instance in more than a decade, delivering a fourth consecutive setback on the faltering Premier League champions.

Missed Chances and Defensive Errors

The team's manager pointed to inefficiency in front of goal and further defensive errors on dead balls from his squad for their newest loss, as the Manchester United manager savoured the first back-to-back league wins of his tenure at United.

The United defender, whose decisive header secured victory, stated it was "humiliating" that United had needed over 50 fixtures to achieve that statistic under their manager.

Missed Opportunities

Arne Slot argued it should not have been possible for Liverpool to lose a game in which they produced so many golden opportunities. Cody Gakpo hit the woodwork on three occasions and failed to convert a gilt-edged opportunity to net a leveling goal in the late stages. But having lost to Crystal Palace, another team, a rival, and now United, the head coach accepted he has a mission on his hands to end Liverpool's negative streak.

Ongoing Challenges

"In my role, you always encounter challenges," said Slot. "Initially and you have to get results, upon moving to a larger team, as the replacement of the previous coach and fans are claiming: 'This is the greatest test you have ever faced.' Now we have suffered four consecutive defeats and that is likewise a test. The existence of a team boss is also an ongoing challenge."

Morale and Play

"Yet, does our self-assurance diminish? I do not observe that currently because each match we've lost we were able to create in the final 45 minutes an incredible number of opportunities. If we can maintain creating what we are achieving and maybe do a several aspects a little bit better, then there is every reason to foresee that we will win contests again. Of course there is the other aspect that, besides the couple of scores we conceded, we yielded perhaps two or three more chances. This is continually the battle we have when we are 1-0 down, then you need to take a bit more of a chance."

Umpiring Dispute

Slot thought the official, the match official, should have paused play before the scorer's early goal because of a blow to the head incurred by Mac Allister. The player had to have wound closure in a laceration. But the head coach said: "The key point I must do now is not complain at these kind of things. We should have done significantly improved after the player was on the floor but the health care of the team members is important and if a player must have medical attention, you would expect everybody realizes he required attention. But we should have executed better and that is not the reason we were defeated. The cause is we failed to convert an excessive number of chances to secure victory in a contest."

Contrasting Opinions

Ruben Amorim declared United's determination and composure was crucial to success at Anfield, particularly after Cody Gakpo levelled for Liverpool late on, but insisted the greatest achievement of his eventful tenure would not change any goals for the season.

Their manager remarked: "I prefer you folks [the media] to persist with the narrative that you have so I do not intend to increase the target. What we need to do is attempt to win three games in a row now and forget about Champions League places or higher finishes. We already said we want to go to European competition. This doesn't change nothing. We are the identical side we were 90 minutes ago."

Player Reactions

Maguire, nonetheless, described the victory as "huge" for United as they at last obtained back-to-back Premier League triumphs under the Portuguese coach. United's goal scorer stated: "It's embarrassing really. It's not a statistic that we need to mention because it is an humiliating record to have."

"Having overcome that, let's try and make it three [wins] on the next matchday against Brighton, because we must start showing a little more regularity together. The past few campaigns we'd put in a performance like this and the subsequent game we drop off again. We have set a bench mark, there are a lot of aspects we can enhance."

"Our coach aims for flawlessness so I'm confident he will desire us to execute better than we did in the final 45 minutes. Great battle, big morale, big win, but as always we must proceed again."
