Exploring a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Turdy Character on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have discovered numerous interesting independent titles. Yet, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure includes a hero that is literally a turd attempting to travel to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is simple: press a jump control. Across 150 levels, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a market to purchase skins for your dung hero.

Plan your jumps with caution, since one mistake requires restarting the level. Bounce off bubbles to launch yourself upward, cross crumbling surfaces, and activate switches to open hidden paths. Earn coins to purchase challenging game content where things ramps up.

Graphically, the game boasts vibrant environments and an amazing background music. The retro visual style with morphing basic polygons may remind fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

Although tough to name similar titles where you control a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often included scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft throwables from protagonist excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly concept, Unko Technica has already received notable awards, like being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is ready now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to launch on Steam in the fall.
