British Broadens Toxic Alcohol Toxicity Alert Roster with Eleven Destinations
The UK authorities has placed 11 more destinations to its travel warning list concerning the risks of methanol toxicity from contaminated spirits.
The updated warning covers Bangladesh, India, Iran, Jordan, Libya, Malawi, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and Rwanda due to evidence showing "a global increase in the incidence of reported cases" of toxic alcohol poisoning.
Only a few weeks ago, the government had earlier included Ecuador, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Russia, and Uganda to the standing register, after a number of serious events like the tragic death of six visitors in Laos in 2024.
Travelers are being warned that as little as minimal doses of toxic alcohol can result in blindness or fatality within twelve to forty-eight hrs.
